Borewater Project

  • Borehole Water Project

Current Situation

During the duration of our first program (Canned tin for kids savings) we observed that Kids and their family have been using dirty water for washing and doing laundry. For drinking and cooking, the families who can afford to pay, will have to travel far away to fetch for it. But in many cases, especially for less fortunate families, they fetch this dirty water cooking and drinking.

There isn’t any proper water system in the area. The town authorities have neglected the place including the indigenous landowners who are residing on this land. Their responsibilities to provide healthy good water and sanitation system is lacking.

The children have developed skin diseases such as ulcer, scabies, etc. due to this poor water condition.

During rainy season, the water is always muddy and dirty. It’s unhygienic to use.

On the other hand, during dry season, the water level is very low, and the community dig the sand to fetch water.

Very sad encounter during our visitation and program activities in the community.

With the above, we feel that there is a huge need to fund raise to help these vulnerable and less fortunate families and their children.

Project Beneficiaries

The entire community will be benefiting for this borehole water project. Currently we have about over 50 children who have registered with us for Canned Tin4Kids Savings program. Of these 50 children, 28 have been registered to obtain their birth certificate very soon and will proceed to open their Kids Accounts with Bank of South Pacific (BSP). Twenty-five (25) are females and thirty-three (33) are males.

Most of these children didn’t attend any formal education. Sadly, most of them are roaming around the community with limited supervision from their parents and guardians. Some of these children are from broken homes, have a mum without a dad or vice versa. In few instances that we encountered, some children live with their guardians due to parents’ being separated.

In addition, the borehole water system would have assisted over 100 families in this ATS Samarai Block area, in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Project is estimated to cost PGK12,000 (AUD6000).
